Noncommutative Geometry Seminar
Time: 10:00AM - 11:00AM
Location: BLOC 302
Speaker: Xiang Tang, Washington University in St. Louis
Title: Mapping Cone, Morse Theory, and Witten Deformation
Abstract: Inspired by a cohomology theory introduced by Tsai, Tseng, and Yau for symplectic manifolds, we introduce a mapping cone construction for Morse theory. We will also explain how to use Witten's deformation and instanton complex to study this mapping cone complex in the case of symplectic manifolds.
Student/Postdoc Working Geometry Seminar
Time: 4:00PM - 5:30PM
Location: BLOC 628
Speaker: JM Landsberg, TAMU
Title: How to get rid of uninvited guests? or Why I am trying to learn commutative algebra
Abstract: Progress on classical questions in linear algebra and complexity theory had been blocked for some time. Machinery from algebraic geometry has led to recent breakthroughs and points to further breakthroughs. I will give a broad overview and then specialize to a specific question that will be one of the main topics of the working seminar in the spring.
