Masters degree: Computational Math Track
Thesis option
- Requires a minimum of 32 credit hours, at least 16 of which must be in mathematics (excluding MATH 691 credits).
- There must be a 10 credit hours core of required mathematics
courses consisting of the following:
- Each of the following:
- MATH 609 (Numerical Analysis) or MATH 610 (Numerical Methods in Partial Differential Equations);
- MATH 647 (Mathematical Modeling).
- At least one of the following:
- If not already used for above requirement: MATH 610 (Numerical Methods in Partial Differential
Equations);
- MATH 639 (Iterative Techniques);
- MATH 648 (Computational Algebraic Geometry);
- MATH 660 (Computational Linear Algebra).
- There must be at least 6 credit hours of core mathematics electives. Suggested
courses include:
- MATH 607 (Real Variables I);
- MATH 611 (Introduction to Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations I);
- MATH 613 (Graph Theory);
- MATH 615 (Introduction to Classical Analysis);
- MATH 617 (Complex Variables I);
- MATH 630 (Combinatorics);
- MATH 641 (Analysis for Applications I);
- MATH 651 (Optimization I);
- MATH 653 (Algebra I);
- MATH 661 (Mathematical Theory of Finite Element Methods);
- MATH 676 (Finite Element Methods in Scientific Computing);
- MATH 679 (Mathematical Algorithms and their Implementations).
- There must be at least 9 credit hours in a coordinated minor.
- This leaves 7 of 32 credits to be chosen in consultation with the
student's advisor. A maximum of 6 credit hours of
MATH 691 (Research) may be included in the degree plan.
- Each student must write a thesis.
Non-Thesis option
- Requires a minimum of 36 credit hours, at least 19 of which must
be in mathematics.
- There must be a 10 credit hours core of required mathematics
courses consisting of the following:
- Each of the following:

- There must be at least 12 credit hours in a coordinated minor.
- This leaves 5 of 36 credits to be chosen in consultation with the student's advisor.
