General Information. The Final Exam will be on Friday, 5/4/07,
12:30-2:30 pm, in our usual classroom. Please bring an
8½×11 bluebook. To get some idea of what the test will be
like I am releasing the final exam for Fall
2004. Be aware that this test covers a somewhat different
selection of topics and is definitely not the same
as what your test will be.
Extra office hours. I will have extra office hours next
week. I'll email the class specific times once I've set them.
Structure. There will be 7 to 10 questions, some with multiple
parts. The problems will be similar to ones done for homework, as
examples in class, in the text, or in my notes. About half of the test
will be over new material.
Material covered.
-
The final will cover sections 3.1 to 3.7B in the text, the notes
on
Methods of Finding Bases, normal modes, least-squares, and
calculation of Fourier series.
-
Notation. You should know the notation that we have have used
for row reduction, matrices, projections, rank, linear
transformations, various vector spaces, etc.
-
There will be no specific questions on the material from chapters 1
and 2. However, you will be expected to know this material well enough
to use it to solve problems from the sections explicitly covered. In
addition, you should be able to use the material in the notes listed
below.
Calculators. You may use calculators to do arithmetic, although
you will not need them. You may not use any calculator that
has the capability of doing linear algebra, symbolic manipulation, or
of storing programs or other material.
