Surface formed by a union of coamoebae of lines

Mounir Nisse and Frank Sottile

In these animations, we start with the coamoeba of a line in (C*)3, and consider the other seven coamoebae obtained by translating this by the group {0,π}3. These are the coamoebae of the eight lines obtained by multiplying the line by {1,-1}3.

On the left is what we get from a complex line, and on the right is that from a real line.
